Job Summary:
- Oversees daily operations, sets performance standards, and ensures regulatory compliance in inventory management.
- Develops policies, implements staff training, and monitors budget and productivity for efficient supply chain operations.
- Fosters relationships with hospital staff, manages supply levels, and evaluates methods to optimize cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for organizing, managing and establishing the standards for materials distribution, storeroom inventory, point of use inventory systems, receiving, mailroom, print shop, capital asset tracking (RTLS), emergency logistics planning and SPD to assure efficiency in daily operations and completion of tasks and objectives.
- Designs and implements evaluation mechanisms and/or procedures to assess the success of the standards including factors evaluated by the Joint Commission, AHCA, State licensure teams, and other regulatory bodies.
- Provides leadership framework for planning, directing, coordinating and improving services by the Division that are responsive to the needs of the Public Health Trust (PHT) consistent with hospital goals, objectives and regulations impacting inventory management in an acute healthcare facility.
- Recruits, motivates, evaluates and maintains an effective staff to carry out assigned responsibilities. Provides for training, coaching and development of staff and plans and coordinates educational programs as needed to increase staff development and productivity.
- Assures employee compliance with all hospital and Supply Chain policies and procedures, as well as department compliance of education and employee performance evaluations.
- Provides leadership support in the communication and integration of the PHT Mission Statement. Develops and/or supervises the development of policies and procedures governing the operation of the Supply Chain Department.
- Ensures that policies and procedures are revised as necessary and on a regular basis.
- Develops Continuous Quality Improvement programs to ensure the continuous assessment and improvement of services provided by the Department.
- Develops and maintains effective working relationships with medical staff, nursing staff, administrative staff, and adjunct support services.
- Coordinates par management, supply usage rates, order quantities and space allocations to ensure sufficient supply availability while maintaining a low on-hand inventory and effective point of use supply automation.
- Designs and evaluates materials methods, hospital-wide, and implements those offering the best combination of acceptability, cost containment and efficiency.
- Develops, recommends and implements inventory control procedures to protect the Jackson Health System investment in supplies and equipment.
- Develops and monitors department operating budget.
- Prepares and submits detailed operational budgets including personnel, contractual services, supplies, and equipment.
- Designs statistical reports to provide productivity measures and performance indicators.
- Monitors revenue and cost-per-patient day and dollars in inventory on a monthly basis.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of materials handling equipment and technology; and recommends appropriate changes when more efficient and/or effective hardware and methods become available. Conducts regular rounds inspecting supply inventory levels, reviewing customer satisfaction and making recommendations for increasing control and reducing cost.
- Supervises and supports staff on all shifts in the performance of functions to meet daily operational goals in Materials/Distribution.
- Ensures that employees respect the rights, privacy and property of others at all times, including confidentiality of information, according to Administrative Policies and all applicable laws and regulations.
- Reinforces the Standards of Excellence at all times.
- Ensures development and implementation of hospital-wide and unit specific, age specific, safety, security, and infection control standards.
- Performs other duties and related functions as required.
Required Qualification:
Education
- Bachelor's degree in related field is required. Master's degree is strongly preferred.
Experience
- Generally requires 5 to 7 years of related experience. Leadership experience is required.
License/Certification
- Certified Materials and Resource Professional preferred.
